Par cooked penne noodles are tossed with tomato sauce, grated Parmesan cheese and torn basil. Arranged in baking dish then topped with deep-fried country fried steaks, additional tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese. Broiled until cheese is melted and browned then finished with hot pepper flakes and torn fresh basil for a comforting dish packed with Italian flavors.

penne pasta 1 lb
tomato sauce, divided 4 cups
grated Parmesan cheese, divided 1 1/2 cups
torn fresh basil leaves, divided 1 cup
fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced 8 oz
hot chili flakes 1 tsp


  1. Deep Fryer: Preheat oil to 350°F. Place steaks in oil, heavy breading side face down; cook for 3 1/2 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  2. In large pot of boiling salted water, cook penne for 7 minutes; drain. Toss with 2 cups tomato sauce, 1 cup Parmesan and 1/2 cup basil until coated.
  3. Preheat oven to 425°F. Transfer pasta to greased 13- x 9-inch baking dish. Arrange steaks in single layer over pasta. Pour remaining tomato sauce over top. Top with sliced mozzarella; sprinkle with remaining Parmesan. Cover with foil and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
  4. Remove foil; broil for 3 to 4 minutes or until cheese is melted and golden brown. Sprinkle with chili flakes and remaining basil.
