Texas Style Country Fried Steaks 4
all-purpose flour 1 cup
cornmeal 1/2 cup
granulated sugar 2 tsp
baking powder 1 tsp
baking soda 1/2 tsp
salt 1/4 tsp
eggs 2
buttermilk 1 1/2 cups
vegetable oil 2 tbsp
shredded Monterey Jack cheese 3/4 cup
large jalapeno pepper, chopped 1
maple syrup 1/2 cup
chili powder 2 tsp


  1. Deep fryer: Preheat oil to 350 degrees F. Place steaks in oil, heavy breading side facing down; cooke for 3 1/2 minutes or until internal temperature reached 165 degrees F.
  2. Preheat waffle iron. Whisk together flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  3. Whisk together eggs, buttermilk and vegetable oil; pour over flour mixture and stir until just combined. fold in cheese and jalapeno.
  4. Pour scant 1 cup batter into greased waffle iron; close lid and cook for about 5 minutes or until golden and crisp.
  5. Whisk together maple syrup and chili powder. Top waffles with steaks; drizzle with maple syrup mixture.
